Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice President Maryam Nawaz's tweet on cancellation of international cricket series between New Zealand and Pakistan over security threats came under fire on social media.

Quoting Prime Minister Imran Khan, Maryam said: "I will employ efforts to get Pakistani passport respected."

Lashing out at Maryam's tweet, a social media user termed her message "shameful", saying she is a "shame for whole nation."

Another user quoted Daren Sammy, who is Saint Lucian cricketer and plays for the Pakistan Super League, tweet and asked Pakistan to give Sammy citizenship and cancel Maryam's nationality.

A user suggested the PML-N leader learn from Sammy, who spoke in favour of Pakistan.

Twitter users also raised questions why people supported Maryam, saying "it’s obvious that she’s against Pakistan".

But others defended her decision, reminding people of the time Imran Khan had mocked the start of international cricket matches in the country.
